GeekPunk is
the oh-so-clever name name for the small-press publishers of Hero Happy Hour -- the humorous
super hero comic book about what super heroes do when they are not
protecting society as crime-fightng crusaders. Team GeekPunk was formed
in 2001 by Dan Taylor (the writer of Hero
Happy Hour) and Chris Fason
(the aritst of Hero Happy Hour).
GeekPunk is nerd
with an edge.
Wasn't Hero Happy Hour originally titled Super Hero Happy Hour?
Right you
are. The first foour issues, as well as the first collected trade
paperback (containing the first four issues) and the 2004 Super Special, were originally
published under the title Super Hero
Happy Hour. But, as it turned out,
the term "super hero" and its various incarnations is trademarked and
co-owned by D.C. Comics and Marvel Comics. GeekPunk was politely asked
to discontinue the use of "Super Hero" in the title of their flagship
publication and now use the title Hero
Happy Hour. Honestly, the alliteration within the title works
better by dropping the "Super."
Where can I find Hero
Happy Hour comic books?
Older
individual issues of (Super) Hero
Happy Hour can still be found in back-issue bins and on eBay.
Unfortunately, the GeekPunk vault
is all sold out of the individual issues
one throuh five, as well as the Volume
1 trade paperback, and the 2004
Super Special. However, an all-new digest-sized collection of
the first five issues -- Hero Happy
Hour, Omnibus 01 -- as well as a digest-sized Hero Happy Hour Super Special
Flashback is now available from Indy
Planet. The GeekPunk team of Taylor and Fason are currently
putting together an all-new two-part spectacular Hero Happy Hour to be released in
2008.
Does GeekPunk publish any
additional titles other than Hero Happy Hour?
GeekPunk is
a small -- very small -- operation. While Hero Happy Hour represents the
majority of GeekPunk's
publishing, additional titles always seem to be in various states of
development. Ninja Bandito
is a beloved stepchild of GeekPunk created by Hero Happy Hour co-creator Taylor
with art by Dustin Evans.
Does GeekPunk accept
submissions?
Unfortunately
not. We wish that we could, even if just to help other comic book
writers
and artists breatk into the biz, but it's just not in the cards at this
time.
